R. Alex Wilkins served as District Governor of District 7570 during the Rotary year 2015-2016. He and his wife Janice now reside in Beaufort, SC where Alex is a member of the Sea Island Rotary Club in District 7770. Alex currently serves as the Marketing and Public Relations Chair for the Zone 33/34 Leadership Summit 2022.
Alex was born and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, received his BA in English from The Citadel in 1979, graduated from the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College in 1992, and earned an MBA from Averett University in 1995. Alex served as a Zone 33 Assistant Rotary Public Image Coordinator from 2016 until 2019, and as the Zone 33 Public Image Coordinator from 2019 until 2022. He served as the Logistics Chair for the Zone 33/34 Leadership Summit 2018, and also as the Chair of the Southland Breakfast for the 2018 International Convention in Toronto. He has attended Rotary club meetings in Japan, Korea, India, Germany, France, Shanghai China, and multiple cities in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico and Jamaica. He and his wife, Janice, both served as Training Facilitators during the 2017, 2018 and 2021 Zone Leadership Summits.
Alex retired from the United States Marine Corps in 2002, where he flew F-4s, A-4s, and F/A-18s, and from Federal Express in November of 2021, where he flew Boeing 727s, 767s, 777s, and MD-11s. He amassed over 16,000 accident-free flight hours during a combined 42-year career.
Outside of Rotary, Alex has served as a Deacon of the Stuart Baptist Church, a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve Association’s Board of Directors, a member of the Virginia Association of Fairs’ Board of Directors, and a member of the Martinsville Blue Ridge Airport Authority Board of Directors.
Alex and Janice both support the Rotary Foundation as Major Donor Members, Bequest Society Members, and Paul Harris Society Members. They have two adult sons: Davis and his wife Paige, and Brandon and his wife Holli. Both sons are Commissioned Officers in the United States Marine Corps. Brandon and his wife, Holli, have one son, Luke.
